How to Customize Your Appearance in Minecraft

Your appearance in the popular game "Minecraft" takes the form of a skin. Minecraft assigns a default skin to every beginning player. The nondescript look can quickly bore an avid Minecraft fan. Fortunately, ways to customize your skin in the game abound. The myriad available options take one of two methods: redesigning your look or discovering an existing skin. Gauge your comfort level with computer design to determine your best option.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to Minecraft's official site with your username and password, then click on "Preferences" at the top of the page. This area features default skins you can download, then tinker with in image editors like Photoshop or Microsoft Paint. Once you've changed the skin to your liking, save the file to your computer. Head back to "Preferences" and click "Choose File." Find your new skin's file. Then click "Upload Image."

Download SkinEdit. This is a user-created program, found in Minecraft Forums, that you can use to easily modify your Minecraft skin. SkinEdit lets you color specific components of a skin, like the back body or the top of the head. Draw in the square for each component. Preview your skin in the screen's bottom right corner. Click it with your mouse to see your skin from different angles. Save your file as a ".png" when finished. Upload it to Minecraft Preferences. Restart Minecraft to view and use the new skin.

Employ SkinCraft. Developed by NewGrounds, this program allows you to either invent a completely new skin, or import and alter an existing skin. You can also browse through SkinCraft for skins created by other users.

Head to Minecraft skin sharing sites. Minecraft SkinShare and The Skindex both feature hundreds of thousands of skins you can consider adopting as your own. Press "Download" on SkinShare, or the downward arrow next to skins on The Skindex, to save a skin to your computer. To tailor it to your liking, open the skin's file in a editor program like Photoshop or Microsoft Paint. Save it again as a ".png" file, then upload it to Minecraft Preferences. This step incorporates your customized appearance within Minecraft.
