MapleStory Big Bang Leveling Guide

The Big Bang event in the massively multiplayer online roleplaying game known as MapleStory included major changes to monsters and maps. Areas such as Ludibrium saw monsters raise from levels 35 through 40 to higher than 60. In addition, the maps, especially on Victoria Island, changed drastically and monsters like horny mushrooms moved from around Ellinia to Henesys. These changes affect how you go about leveling up in the game.
  1. Training

    • Between levels one and 10, you train your character by performing quests geared toward beginners. These quests take place on Victoria Island for explorers, including magicians and thieves, and require you to kill low level monsters like snails, stumps and slimes and collect items they drop. Other classes will begin training in locations relative to their home bases. For example, Wild Hunters of the Resistance will train around Edelstein and Cygnus Knights begin the game near the empress in Ereve. Low level quests exist in every town throughout Victoria Island and all job classes can complete these quests. However, specific classes must also perform job-related quests in order to later make the job advancement.

    First Job Advancement

    • At level 10, most classes can move to the locations of their job masters to start quests that enable them to choose a specific job. Magicians are the exception to this rule, in that you can travel to Ellinia and speak to Grendel, the Really Old at level 8. To advance to thief, seek the Dark Lord in Kerning. Bowman should speak to Athena in Henesys while Dances with Balrog administers quests for potential warriors in Perion. Special classes like Arans, the Resistance, Dual Blades or Evans should head to their home bases. Characters of these special classes may not make job advancements, per se, because they have already chosen their classes when creating the character. The quests provided by your instructor will either require you to kill and collect from normal monsters in the vicinity, or move to special training rooms. Depending upon your class, these quests and their rewards may help you to level up several times.

    Levels 10 through 30

    • Blue ribbon pigs, which are located around Nautilus, provide excellent experience points to help your character level. Blue Ribbon Beach is one map that contains dozens of the monsters, which quickly re-spawn. If you find that blue ribbon pigs are too easy, consider fighting horny and zombie mushrooms south of Henesys. The posted signs also offer quests for you to defeat these monsters, as well as the lower-level green mushrooms. When you finish the quests, return to the Rememberer in Sleepywood and turn in the quests for health and magic potions. Continue south of Henesys to find the Stone Golems, which are not ideal for leveling between 20 and 25. You can find the slightly harder Mixed Stone Golems on maps connected to the regular golems to help you increase to level 30.

    Mushroom Kingdom and Second Job

    • Consider participating in the Mushroom Kingdom quests when you reach level 28. A quest should appear above your character when you reach this level and it will take you to the Mushroom Kingdom, where you can fight mutated spores, mushrooms and various penguins. At level 30, you can return to your job instructor, who will send you on your way to the second job instructor. There, you will complete quests to prove you are worthy of advancement. For example, Wild Hunters must defeat an evil Black Wing character. After advancing, you will earn more skills that allow you to fight stronger monsters and gain more experience.

    Other Leveling Areas

    • You may use MapleStory's new recommended monster feature to find other maps with monsters suitable to your level. Simply press "W" to open your world map and click the "Search Monster Recommendations" button. Maps with monsters suited to your character will flash. If you zoom out on the map, you may find suitable areas on other continents. Similarly, zooming in will show the exact map where the game suggests that you play.
