How to Get Good at Trackmania

"TrackMania" is a 2003 racing video game released for Microsoft Windows operating systems. The game follows an arcade form of racing, where car customization and handling mechanism is minimal. Instead, the main challenge is to beat your own time record through varying levels of difficulty. As you progress, the game expects you to master each track within a more demanding time limit. Thus, becoming a better player is essential to complete the game̵7;s restrictive requirements.

Instructions

    • 1

Memorize a track's general layout before racing. Prior to starting a race, the game shows a preview of each race course. Analyze its tough spots to better anticipate them and plan how best to handle them.

    • 2

Brake before reaching a turn, not while taking it. Due to the game̵7;s natural high-velocity races, start turning accordingly as soon as a right or left turn is visible. This results in your car not losing too much momentum, as it turns smoother around the corner. Moreover, it prevents it from crashing onto available barriers or going off the road.

    • 3

Cut corners whenever possible. Thanks to the lack of realism in "TrackMania," each car is capable of taking deep turns without much handling management. Drive toward the inner lane (close to the barriers and obstacles) as opposed to the outermost lane. In turn, this ensures you get slightly ahead with more efficiency.

    • 4

Ensure your car remains straight before jumping off a ramp. If your car is slightly tilted to either side, it will land awkwardly and ultimately go off the road, causing you to waste valuable time within the race.

    • 5

Use your brakes to decrease speed while in mid-air to avoid going over the track or a particular landing spot. Tap the main ̶0;Brake̶1; button lightly to prevent the car from losing all its momentum and speed.

    • 6

Practice with your ghost car and beat its best time record. The ghost car follows an exact copy of your last race, replicating all your movements and serving as your competitor. As you are essentially competing against your own strength and weaknesses, attempt to correct any mistakes you made during the previous race.

    • 7

Create a custom race track within the game̵7;s built-in editor. The editor provides drag-and-drop pieces of every track̵7;s shape and structure, allowing you to use your imagination fully. Replicate a track section that generally gives you difficulty overcoming. Place it multiple times across the entire track and practice until you can beat it effortlessly.

Watch existing replays and demonstrations on sources like YouTube. Typically, experienced players enjoy showcasing their skills and accomplishments. Analyze their racing style and ultimately pin point what makes them successful racers.
