"The Sims 3"
As "The Sims 3" does not feature stand-alone expansions, the "The Sims 3" core game must be installed before any expansions or additional "The Sims 3" material can be installed. Once installed, players have the option of updating their game with the latest patches from Electronic Arts as well to ensure that the game functions properly and that important patches or bug fixes are installed. If you install multiple expansions after installing and updating the core game, content from every installed expansion will be available in-game.
Installing Expansions and Stuff Packs
A "The Sims 3" game update was released in July, 2011 that eliminated compatibility issues caused by installing expansions in the wrong order. Unfortunately, players who do not have a fully-updated game must follow a specific installation order to make sure that the game is patched properly. As of August, 2011 the expansions and stuff packs should be installed in the following order: "World Adventures," "High-End Loft Stuff," "Ambitions," "Fast Lane Stuff," "Late Night," "Outdoor Living Stuff," "Generations," "Town Life Stuff" and the October, 2011 expansion "Pets."
Installing Game Worlds
Expansion game worlds such as Barnacle Bay and Riverview do not add new features to the game and as such are exempt from inclusion in the installation order. These game worlds can be installed at any time and are compatible with both the base "The Sims 3" game and all of its expansions and stuff packs. After they're installed, these game world expansions give players the option of creating a Sim in an alternate game world instead of the game's default setting.
Running the Game
After installing the core game and any expansions you own, insert the game disc for the most recent expansion you have installed and launch the game using the Electronic Arts "The Sims 3" launcher. Using the launcher ensures that all game data is properly installed into the game and gives you the option to update your game when new updates or patches become available. The launcher also gives players access to the online "The Sims 3" store where additional items can be bought for use in-game.
