How to Run UT3 in DX10

"Unreal Tournament 3" uses DirectX 9 by default, even if it's running on an operating system that supports DirectX 10. However, you can run "UT3" in DirectX 10 mode on Windows Vista and newer versions of Windows by editing the game engine's configuration file. The hidden "AllowD3D10" option enables DirectX 10 support, but it isn't accessible from within the game's options menu. Note that this game's DirectX 10 support is incomplete, so you may not see a difference aside from reduced performance after enabling DirectX 10 mode, depending on your graphics hardware.

Close "Unreal Tournament 3" if it's running.

    • 2

Click "Start" and select "Documents" to open your Documents directory.

    • 4

    • 5

Press "Ctrl" and "F" at the same time to open the find dialog, type "AllowD3D" into the box and press "Enter."

    • 6

Change the "AllowD3D10=False" option in the text file to "AllowD3D10=True" by replacing the "False" with "True."

    • 7
