Without a Ring of Forging, a smelter would successfully smelt iron ore 50 percent of the time, meaning that in 140 attempts, he would produce an average of 70 iron bars. With the Ring of Forging, that same smelter would produce an additional 70 iron bars. It is cost efficient to purchase a Ring of Forging only if the cost to obtain the ring is less than the selling price of 70 iron bars. If the price of 70 iron bars exceeds that of the Ring of Forging, you are better off smelting without it.
Purchasing the Ring of Forging
You can purchase the Ring of Forging from another player or the auction house, which is likely the most reliable and the fastest way to obtain a ring. Try to avoid buying the ring during the summer and weekends, because most players play "RuneScape" during those time periods. The increased demand will often result in a market price increase.
Crafting the Ring of Forging
The Ring of Forging can be created by casting "Enchant Level 3 Jewellery" on a ruby ring. The spell requires a Magic level of 49, and can also be used to create an Inoculation Brace, Amulet of Strength, or Digsite Pendant. Try asking a friend to enchant a ruby ring for you in order to save money. The ruby ring is crafted when a player with level 34 Crafting adds a gold bar, a ruby, and a ring mould in a furnace.
