How to Get Sims to Marry if They Live Together

In The Sims 3, players can initiate friendships and romances with neighbors. Sometimes, a relationship may progress to a live-in situation without an engagement or marriage. A Sim's traits can determine the likelihood that a marriage proposal can be successful. Sims carrying the "Commitment Issues" trait face greater difficulties in successfully establishing and maintaining long-term relationships. Players can set the stage for wedding bells between two Sims by moving slowly through all of the social interactions.

Instructions

Ensure that other boundaries do not prevent the Sims from marrying. Players cannot receive an option to propose to or marry another Sim if that Sim is already married or engaged. Use the Romantic option "Ask if Single" to find out about the Sim's relationship status. Sims can eventually request that a betrothed lover drop a fiancee or spouse before asking the lover to marry. Related Sims -- such as aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings or parents -- cannot marry one another.

Build up a relationship with your Sim's beloved. Select "Friendly" interactions for the initial relationship build-up. Discontinue a particular social interaction if the relationship bar in the upper left corner indicates that other Sim is offended, bored or otherwise unappreciative of the current interactions. When Sims reach "Friend" status, begin using "Romantic" interactions such as "Flirt," "Give Massage" or "Confess Attraction."

    • 3

Wait until the other Sim becomes a "Romantic Interest" before using "Romantic" interactions such as "Kiss," "Make Out" or "Woo-Hoo." Eventually, players should see the option "Propose Going Steady" under the "Romantic" social interaction options. If the other Sim accepts, the two Sims enter a relationship. Continue to increase the relationship between the two Sims through conversation or joint hobbies, such as playing chess or watching television.

Select "Propose Engagement" from under the "Romantic" social interaction options. If the other Sim accepts, use a telephone and select "Throw Party." Choose "Wedding Party" and select the time and location for the party. Click on the desired spouse, select "Romantic..." and then "Get Married."
