How to Remove the Downward Stairs in Dwarf Fortress

In "Slaves to Armok: God of Blood Chapter II: Dwarf Fortress," your primary objective is to take seven dwarfs and build a thriving community with only the wagon with which you arrived. One of the more common constructions in the game are staircases, but players often put these in the wrong place when starting out. Whether you dug natural stairs or constructed them with material, you can remove misplaced stairs.

Instructions

    • 1

Press "D" to open the designation menu.

    • 2

Press the "Up," "Down," "Right" and "Left" arrow keys to highlight the downward staircase you want removed.

    • 3

Press "Z" to remove naturally dug stairs. Naturally dug means stairs your dwarf simply channeled, while constructed refers to having used wood or other material to craft the stairs for durability. The "Z" option removes stairs through piling the dirt back onto the ramp.

    • 4

Press "N" to remove constructed stairs. This option physically removes constructions and will work on anything else you have constructed in the game.
