How to Play Riven

Released in 1997, "Riven: Sequel to the Myst" stands as one of the more challenging computer puzzle games on the market. In "Riven" you play as an anonymous man or woman who wanders about a series of islands trying to solve puzzles for a mysterious man named Atrus, playing off the murder-mystery foundation of Riven's prequel "Myst." Even if you're not familiar with the "Myst" series, "Riven" offers a great gaming experience for the puzzle-minded player. Explore vibrant environments, solve mind-bending puzzles and discover the secrets of the Myst world in "Riven: Sequel to the Myst."

Instructions

  Install "Riven: Sequel to the Myst" to your PC or Mac. While installing, click the check box "Yes" when it asks to place a shortcut on your desktop.

  Double click the desktop shortcut. If you cannot find it, or if you opted not to have a desktop icon, then simply reinsert the game disk and the game should start automatically.

  Select "Start New Game" from the main menu. Watch the opening sequence and wait until you have control over your character.

  Once you have control of your character you can use your mouse to interact with the environment. Hovering over different objects in a scene will prompt you with choices to pick up an object or to activate a switch. Clicking on a walkway or a gate will normally take you to a new area. Use manipulations like these to explore "Riven" and solve its many puzzles.
