How to Use Eldar in Soulstorm

The Eldar are one of the player factions that have been available since the initial release of "Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War." The Eldar are one of the most difficult factions to use. Every unit they possess is specialized for one task, but nearly worthless in any other role. A good Eldar player needs to evaluate his opponent's strategy and build the correct units to counter them. The "Soulstorm" expansion has not changed the strategy of the Eldar significantly, but adds the Nightwing fighter as a usable unit.

Instructions

    • 1

Build Guardian squads early on to use against enemy infantry units. Use them in ranged combat only.

    • 2

Build Ranger squads to take out enemy infantry and listening posts. Once you upgrade Rangers with the Infiltration ability, no enemy units can attack your Rangers unless they have a unit capable of revealing cloaked units.

    • 3

Build Dark Reaper squads to provide long range attacks. Exploit their long range to keep them out of enemy weapons range as much as possible. The range and speed of these units are high enough that most enemy units should not be able to outpace them and get into weapons range.

    • 4

Build Howling Banshee squads to provide melee troops. Howling Banshees can take out almost any other infantry unit once they get into close combat range.

    • 5

Build Fire Dragon squads to destroy vehicles and building. These units are not effective against infantry, but make quick work of enemy armor.

    • 6

Build Brightlance Grav Platforms to destroy enemy vehicles. Make sure to support them with nearby infantry, because their single, powerful weapon has limited effect against enemy infantry.

    • 7

Build Falcon Grav Tanks to provide transport for your infantry units. The Falcon allows your infantry to move much more quickly around the battlefield than is possible on foot. It is useful for getting your specialized units in the correct location to make best use of their abilities. For example, you can use a Falcon to move Fire Dragon squads to an enemy base that is currently undefended. By the time the enemy responds, your Fire Dragons can destroy most buildings, reload onto the Falcon and get away before the reprisal force arrives.

    • 8

Build Wraithlords to destroy any type of unit or structure in close combat.

    • 9

Build Nightwings to scout enemy positions and units. The Nightwing can also harass unprotected buildings, melee infantry, other aircraft and light infantry with little fear of reprisal.
