How to Install 3 Skulls of the Toltecs

"3 Skulls Of The Toltecs" is a computer adventure game released in 1996 by Revistonic. Players control a cowboy named Fenimore Fillmore who finds a golden skull that may lead to great treasure. Players interact with the gameworld through a series of verbs presented on the bottom of the screen. The game is not easy to install on a modern operating system due to its age. Fortunately it is possible to install through the use of a freeware program called "DOSbox."

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install the latest version of "DOSbox." Double click the "DOSbox" icon on your desktop after installation to start the program. A window showing a command prompt will display.

    • 2

Insert your "3 Skulls Of The Toltecs" disk in your computer drive. Mount the game disk with DOSbox by typing "MOUNT c d:\" (without the quotations marks.) Substitute the "d:\" with the letter of your CD-ROM drive if it is not the "d" drive.

    • 3

Type "C:\" (without the quotation marks) to navigate to the new mounted drive.

    • 4

Type "Install" in the DOSbox command prompt to begin the installation of the game. Enter a location where you want to install the game when asked ("C:\3Skulls" for example.)

    • 5

Copy the 100mb file "Western" from the game CD to the folder where you installed the game.

    • 6

Type "Setsound" in the DOSbox command prompt and configure the audio for the game. Select "Creative Labs Soundblaster or 100% compatible" from the list of audio devices for both sound and music. Choose the "Attempt to configure sound driver automatically" option for the setup program to fill in all the correct settings.

    • 7

Select "Done" to return back to the command prompt.

    • 8

Type "Picture Western" in the DOSbox command prompt to start the game. The game will start if the installation was successful and the file copied correctly.
