How to Retexture Armor in Oblivion

"The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" is a role-playing game from Bethesda Softworks. The PC version of the game can be edited to the user's liking, from armor retexturing to creating brand new objects for the game. Retexturing a piece of armor in the game can seem overwhelming if you are not familiar with the process, but the task can be rewarding when you see your own designs in the game.

Instructions

  Unpack the "Oblivion - Meshes.bsa" and the "Oblivion - Textures - Compressed.bsa" files in your Oblivion Data directory using a BSA unpacker of your choice. You can locate these files where you originally installed the game.

  Find the texture file you wish to edit in the unpacked texture folder.

  Open the texture file using photo editing software that can open DDS files, such as GIMP or Paint.NET.

  Make any edits you want to the texture file and save the file.

  Launch the game and find the piece of armor you edited and your changes will be viable.
