How to Use Spells in Diablo

"Diablo" is a dungeon crawling roleplaying game in the vein of "Rogue" and "Fate." At the beginning of the game, players create a character belonging to one of three classes, including the spell-flinging sorcerer. Although other classes can also cast spells, the sorcerer is the most adept. Spells range from attack magic like the Fireball to defensive abilities like Heal. At the start of the game, he doesn't know most of these spells. He learns them by reading spell books. Casting them requires only three mouse-clicks.

  Acquire a spell book. You can purchase some from the shop in town. The rest you'll find as random loot while exploring the dungeons.

  Open your inventory and use the book to try reading it. If your Magic skill isn't high enough, you won't learn the spell. You can increase your Magic skill by allocating points after a level up. You can also get a temporary bonus by wearing items such as the Ring of Magic.

  Click the "Spell" button. This opens a menu that lists all the spells you know.

  Select the spell you want to cast. Some spells like Town Portal cast immediately. Others require you select a target as well.

  Choose a target. You'll cast the spell at the target.
