How to Hook Up a LAN for Warcraft III

"Warcraft III" is one of the last games from Blizzard Entertainment that features local area network play capabilities. If you and other players connect your computers to the same wired network, you could all locally play the game with one another. To accomplish this, you just have to set up the appropriate local area network connection from the main "Warcraft III" multiplayer menu.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert your "Warcraft III" game disc into your computer. Click the "Play" button in the launcher, which loads the game's main menu.

    • 2

Select "Local Area Network" from the game's main menu. This will allow you to see the only options relating to the LAN capabilities of "Warcraft III." Type a desired username into the box on screen. This username identifies you on the local area network. It also identifies you during the game.

    • 3

Click "Create Game" to open the screen that allows you to setup the LAN game. You can choose a new level (called a "map") to play on with your friends. Using the commands laid out on screen, select the game's time limit, troop number and speed. When you're finished setting up your LAN game, click "Create Game" again. You will be taken to a "Warcraft III" local area network "lobby."

    • 4

Repeat "Step 1" through "Step 2" on each additional computer that will be participating in the LAN game. Instead of selecting "Create Game" from the "Local Area Network" menu, these computers will select "Join Game." Select the name of the LAN game that was previously set up on each machine. All computers will join the local area network lobby.

    • 5

Click "Start Game" on the computer that sets up the local area network game. All "Warcraft III" players will now participate in a LAN game over a network.
