Instructions

  1. By Hand

    • 1

Make a rough pencil sketch of your racetrack on a large sheet of paper. Decide if your racetrack is straight, in a ring, spirals or meanders like a snake in different directions. Divide your racetrack into stepping sections so that the race is led by the roll of the dice. Place hurdles on your racetrack that require the player to answer a question to be able to progress forward in the race, if applicable to your game.

      .

    • 2

Use a white sheet of mounting board. Measure out the shape you want for your race game using a pencil and ruler. Cut out the shape with a craft knife, using the side of the ruler to guide the blade.

    • 3

Draw your finished design neatly onto your white game board. Apply color to your design with poster paint or art marker pens. Use bright contrasting colors so that every aspect of your game design stands out. Go over the pencil lines with a black outline, using a black drawing pen.

    By Computer

    • 4

Make a rough pencil sketch of the layout of the racetrack for your game on a sheet of paper.

    • 5

Open up a new Word document. Make individual track sections by selecting a shape via the "Insert" tab and clicking on "Shapes." Fill the shape with color. Leave the shape plain or add text to give a game instruction. Include clip art images or upload your own pictures to make your game visually stimulating.

    • 6

Print each page. Note that six to eight track sections can fit on each page. Use glossy paper if you want a shiny look on your game board. Print a page for each lane on your racetrack. For instance, if your game is for four players, you would have four lanes, so each page would have to be printed four times.

    • 7

Draw out the shape of your game board and cut it out using a ruler and a craft knife.

    • 8

Cut out the track sections from the printouts using a pair of scissors. Glue the track sections onto the track lanes on the mounting board to lay out your racetrack on your game board. Now you can make the other aspects of your game.
