How to Play NFL-Opoly

NFL-opoly copies the Monopoly board game and adds an NFL theme. The game, released by USA Games in 1994, is designed for two to six players and involves dice rolling, set collecting and trading. A fast action game with a time limit of one hour, NFL-opoly gets football fans into the action right away and cuts out most of the dead times experienced in traditional Monopoly. The object of NFL-opoly is simple: the player with the most points at the end of 60 minutes is the winner.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a game token. There are six NFL tokens to choose from for a total of up to six players.

    • 2

Set up the board. Place the Penalty Cards and Wild Cards on the board; there are 15 cards of each. Set the 100 point vouchers next to the board, these will be collected one point at a time throughout the game. Place the NFL deed cards face-down next to the board. Each deed card represents an NFL football team. While older versions of the game have 28 NFL deed cards, the newest versions will have 31 cards to represent 31 teams, including the most recent expansion teams.

    • 3

Roll the dice. Each player starts his turn by rolling dice to travel around the board. Players cannot skip turns if they do not want to roll; every player must roll on every turn.

    • 4

Follow instructions on Penalty Cards and Wild Cards if you land on a corresponding game square. The Penalty Cards are always negative, and the Wild Cards may be negative or positive. For example, some Wild Cards give you bonus points, allowing you to collect additional point vouchers.

    • 5

Collect a point voucher as you pass the "Kickoff" space. This is the equivalent to Monopoly's "Go" space. Do not collect on the first turn, only start collecting after you have gone around the board.

    • 6

Purchase teams and athletes when you land on them. You have the option of purchasing the rights of athletes and teams as you land on them, but you do not have to purchase rights on them. You may also save your money for other athletes and teams as part of your strategy. Athletes and teams serve the same purpose as real estate property in the original Monopoly game.

    • 7

Pay royalties if you land on another player's space. As players purchase athletes and teams, they own the legal right to be paid royalties when other players land on them.

    • 8

Collect a point voucher when other players land on your athletes or teams. Instead of collecting money, you score points, just like in an NFL football game. This is just like regular Monopoly where you collect rent from players who land on your property, except in NFL-opoly you score points.
