How to Play the Board Game Eragon

"Eragon" is the first book in the popular "Inheritance Cycle" series by Christopher Paolini. In 2006, "20th Century Fox" released the motion picture adaptation of the first book, titled "Eragon". A fantasy story with swords, sorcery, and dragons, it also had a board game released in 2006 called "Eragon, the Official Motion Picture Board Game." Players use dice to roll and move along a linearly-designed board, randomly landing on square blocks labeled "Raid", "Challenge", "Draw a Card", "Roll Again", or simply blank.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose your board game piece and place it at the "Starting" area. The pieces are in the shape of a sword hilt, with varying colors and gems.

    • 2

Divide the 100 "Dragon Crystals" evenly between each player. If there are only two players, each will receive 50 "Dragon Crystals" at the beginning. "Dragon Crystals" are the currency in the "Eragon" board game. To win the game, obtain as many "Dragon Crystals" as possible from the "Starting" area to the "End" area.

    • 3

Roll the dice to decide if you get to go first. There are two total die that you must use throughout the "Eragon" board game: a red "Strength" die and a green "Magic" die. Roll to see if your two die, combined, is a greater number than your opponent(s).

    • 4

Roll the dice when it is your turn. The Eragon board game is set up in a straight path. You will not encounter alternate routes. Move your piece the combined number of spaces represented on the dice you rolled for that turn.

    • 5

Complete the action required if you landed on a square that was not blank. If you land on a "Roll Again" square, roll the dice again and move forward from that specific point. "Draw a Card" requires you take the top card from the card pile in the center of the board. "Challenge" allows you to bet a number of "Dragon Crystals" and choose an opposing player, initiating a die battle in which you must roll a higher number on a single die to win. "Raid" will initiate a die battle similar to "Challenge", but you must do battle with every other player.

    • 6

Wait for each other player to take one turn. Each player, including yourself, is awarded a turn in a clock-wise fashion. The only exception to this rule must come from a drawn card which will detail how many turns a player must miss.

    • 7

Count the total number of "Dragon Crystals" you and the other players have once you have all reached the "Ending" area. The player with the highest number of "Dragon Crystals" wins the game.
