How to Replace the Felt on a Backgammon Board

Any cherished board game will show signs of wear and tear after years of use. Backgammon is a board game for two players that uses dice to determine how players move their game pieces. Backgammon boards are commonly covered with felt. Over time, the felt may tear or start coming off. Replacing the felt can be done easily, and you can use any colors you choose to give the board game a fresh, new look.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the size of the piece of felt to be replaced with a ruler or measuring tape. Trace an outline onto tracing paper if you want.

    • 2

Draw an outline of the replacement piece onto a piece of felt in a matching color. If replacing all of the felt on the board, use colors of your choice. If using tracing paper, cut out the outline on the tracing paper and secure it to the felt with pins.

    • 3

Use sharp scissors to cut out the replacement piece of felt.

    • 4

Secure the felt piece in position on the backgammon board with craft glue. Choose a glue that will adhere to both felt and wood or cork, whichever was used to make your board.

    • 5

Allow the glue to dry for at least 24 hours.
