Strategy Tips for the Game Risk

Risk is a board game that was first produced by Parker Brothers in 1957. The object of the game is to attain world domination by strategically deploying armies throughout the world and sending them into battle against your opponents. To increase your chances of winning Risk, consider these basic strategies.
  1. Conquer the Americas

    • If a player is able to conquer North and South America, he will control over half the armies in the world. This places him in a position where he can quickly dispose of the other players' forces and seize control of the game. The only chance the other players typically have in this situation is to combine forces and attack the player.

    Capture Australia

    • By capturing a continent, a player can greatly increase her base of power by gaining bonus armies. Australia is relatively small which makes it easier to capture, and there is only one main point of entry which makes it easier to defend. The one drawback to this strategy is that Australia is more remote, which makes launching attacks on other regions problematic.

    One Objective at a Time

    • It is better to concentrate most of your armies on one target at a time instead of spreading your forces all over the world. By massing your forces you will have a better chance of achieving your objective. Once the objective is achieved, you should then concentrate on the next objective. You should also avoid placing your armies near areas where your opponents have strongholds.

    Fewer Players Means More Offense

    • The fewer players in the game, the more offensive-minded your strategy should be. If you only have one opponent, you don't have to be as concerned about waging multiple fronts and you don't have to be concerned with alliances being formed against you by multiple players. Instead, you can concentrate all your efforts against annihilating your few opponents.

    Be Capital-Conscious

    • Never leave your capitals vulnerable to attack. Keep at least two of your armies back to surround and defend your capital. You should also focus on capturing the capitals of your opponents to fortify your armies and prevent your opponent from winning the game.
