Ouija Board Rules

The Ouija board is a mysterious object, and the rules and guidelines for using it tend to vary from source to source. Because it is so mysterious, there are endless rules and superstitions surrounding this board. Below are some of the more classic rules and guidelines for making a good connection with your Ouija board.
Outcomes may vary.
  1. Two or More Persons

    • The Ouija board should be used by two people at a time. A single person is unlikely to get a response. Two people get better results, especially if the pair is male and female. More than two people is not recommended, because it's more difficult to detect if someone is cheating by moving the Ouija planchette (message indicator) on his or her own. However, you can have a third person in the room to observe.

    Lightly Touch the Indicator

    • Both persons participating should lightly rest two to four of his/her fingers upon the Ouija planchette. Put no pressure on the indicator so it can move freely over the board. Be patient when waiting for a response, and if nothing is happening, try turning off any electronics in the room. These electronic devices might be interfering with your Ouija board connection.

    One Question at a Time

    • Only one person at a time should ask a question to avoid confusion. Ask your question, then wait quietly for the planchette to begin moving. For best results, do not ask questions in a mocking manner or laugh while you are asking. Try not to guess or finish anything the Ouija board is spelling out. Wait for the whole message to come through. If it is not clear what letter on the board is intended to come through in the glass window of the planchette, ask the board to reconfirm the letter.

    Start Slow

    • You are more likely to get better results f you start out asking only questions that require a "yes" or "no" answer. Once you begin getting clear responses, you can start asking more complicated questions. If this is your first time using a Ouija board, you should make sure only one person is asking the questions; this same person should close up the board and put it away.
