Things You'll Need
Instructions
Move a pawn. Since you have eight pawns on your chessboard they are usually the first piece that will be moved. You can move a pawn two spaces on the initial move but only one space after that. You don't have to move two spaces to begin but you can. A pawn can only move straight ahead unless it is capturing an opponent's piece. Then it is required to capture by moving sideways.
Select a knight. A knight has a more complex move than the other pieces and can jump over other pieces. The move is either two forward and one to the side or one forward and two to the side. This is the only piece besides a pawn that you can move on your first move.
Advance your bishop. A bishop can only move diagonally, forwards or backwards and can't jump over other pieces.
Slide you rook. A rook can move horizontally or vertically any number of spaces, but it can't jump over other pieces.
Let your queen move in any direction and as many spaces as you want. However, a queen can't jump over other chess pieces.
Allow your king to move in any direction but only one space at a time. You want to make sure you guard your king because if he is captured the game is over and your opponent wins.
