Why have they changed the Monopoly game pieces?

The Monopoly game pieces haven't actually been changed permanently. The current pieces are still the classic ones we know and love:

* Iron

* Thimble

* Wheelbarrow

* Battleship

* Shoe

* Dog

* Hat

* Cat

* Top Hat

However, in 2013, Hasbro ran a campaign where they asked fans to vote on which piece they would eliminate. This campaign caused a lot of buzz and generated a lot of interest in the game, so it could be what you're thinking about. The result was that the iron piece was retired, and the "Scottie Dog" piece was chosen as a replacement.

However, this was just a limited-time change. Hasbro made the new pieces available for a while but ultimately brought back the iron piece and retired the Scottie Dog.

So, while there was a temporary change in the Monopoly game pieces, the classic set is still the one in circulation. The iron piece is back, and the Scottie Dog is no longer part of the game!
