Basic Gameplay:
1. Setup:
- Use a standard deck of 52 playing cards.
- Shuffle the deck and deal out 7 cards to each player.
- Place the remaining cards face down in the center of the table to form a draw pile.
- Flip the top card of the draw pile face up to start the discard pile.
2. Gameplay:
- The first player starts by playing a card from their hand that matches the top card of the discard pile in either rank or suit.
- Example: If the top card is a 7 of Hearts, you could play any 7 or any Heart.
- If a player cannot match the top card, they must draw a card from the draw pile.
- If the drawn card is playable, they can play it immediately.
- If the drawn card is not playable, they must discard it and it becomes the new top card of the discard pile.
- Play continues clockwise, with each player taking their turn.
3. Winning:
- The first player to get rid of all their cards wins the round.
Variations:
* Top That - "Go Fish" Style:
- After playing a card, the player must "Top That" by calling out the rank or suit they want to play.
- For example, if the player plays a 7 of Clubs, they might say "Top that with a Queen!"
- Other players must then play a Queen of any suit if they have one.
- If no one can "Top That", the player draws a card from the draw pile.
* Top That - "Crazy Eights" Style:
- "8" cards can be played on any card, and the player can then choose the rank or suit that must be played next.
- This adds a lot of strategy and excitement to the game!
Tips:
* Pay attention to the discard pile: You can often predict what cards other players might have, which can help you decide what to play.
* Don't be afraid to draw: Sometimes drawing a card can give you the card you need to win the round.
* Have fun! This game is all about trying to be the first to get rid of your cards, so relax and enjoy the competition.
