Circle Games
Ask your kindergartners to sit in a circle. Have the children go around the circle calling out different colors. For a more difficult game, have each child repeats the colors each child says before him. For example, if the first child says "blue" and the next child says "green." The third child must say "blue, green and _______," adding another color of his choice. Alternatively, have the children call out insects, such as grasshoppers, bees and ants, instead of colors.
Parachute Games
Spread a large color wheel parachute on the ground. Mark a line 10 feet from the parachute and have children try to toss the corresponding color beanbag onto each section of the color wheel. The child who lands the most correctly wins the game. Incorporate insects into the game by taping pictures of insects on the sections of the parachute, as well as on the beanbags. Children must toss the beanbags onto the correct section on the parachute.
Guessing Games
Fill a clear jar with plastic insects. Have the children guess how many insects are in each jar. The child who guesses closest to the correct number of insects wins a prize. Alternatively, fill a clear jar with several colored gumballs. Have the children guess how many white gumballs are in the jar. Play the same for other colors and the children who guess closest to the correct number win small prizes. Another idea is to fill the jar with a combination of colored gumballs and insects.
Scavenger Hunt Games
Take your kindergartners outside to play a scavenger hunt. Cut circles out of colored construction paper and hide them all over the play area. Ask the children to find as many colored circles as they can. The player who finds the most wins the game. Another idea is to call out a color and the first child to find that color circle wins the game. Alternatively, hide plastic insects around the play area. Call out an insect and have the children search for that kind of insect or see who can find the most insects.
