Yoga Animals
Young girls get a meditative workout, stretch their muscles, and release energy through playing "yoga animals." In this activity, a yoga instructor or adult teaches youth how to form yoga poses that have animal names. Examples of these poses include downward facing dog, up dog, cobra or pigeon. When the girls are in the pose, have her focus on how that animal behaves. Kids can roam around the room in versions of the poses to mimic the look, noises and actions of an imitated animal.
Blob Tag
This popular game needs a group of girls, typically ten or more, to play. One girl is "it," and every time she tags another girl, that girl must link arms with "it," and run alongside her as they work to tag other girls. Every girl that is subsequently tagged by "it" or her new partner, must link arms as well and can also tag other girls. As more girls are tagged, "it" becomes a blob of girls, moving in sync until the last girl is tagged.
Closet Raid
A fun indoor game for girls is a timed "closet raid." Set a timer for one to three minutes, and instruct the girls to dress up, using clothes in the closet, to a certain theme. The theme can be a princess, a ball player, a mad scientist, or their grandmother. At the end of the timer, the girl with the best improvised costume wins a point. Cleaning up after this game will also require a lot of energy to be expended.
Flashlight Tag
When it gets dark, girls can play flashlight tag either inside or outside. One girl is "it," and she has a flashlight. Other girls run and hide, and they are tagged by having the flashlight shined on their face. This game works best if participants are instructed to keep moving rather than remain in one hiding spot.
