Crocodile & Alligator Homeschool Activities

Easy Crafts

• For an easy craft, you can have homeschool children color alligator and crocodile coloring pages from online. They can use crayons and markers to color the pictures. If you do not mind a mess, allow the children to color the pictures with non-toxic paint. The children can make a shiny alligator or crocodile by painting a thin layer of glue on the picture and sprinkling the picture with green glitter. For another idea, print pictures or allow the children to use alligator or crocodile books with pictures to freehand the reptiles.

Memory Activities

• Make an educational memory game for homeschool children using alligator and crocodile pictures. Print different-colored alligators and crocodiles on small sheets of paper. Place the cards face down on a table and have the children play a game of memory match. The child who finds the most pairs wins the game. Another idea is to place the pictures on a board and have the children look at all the pictures. Ask them to close their eyes and remove one picture. When the children open their eyes, the first child to tell you what color alligator or crocodile is missing wins the game.

Other Crafts

• Other crafts include alligator or crocodile clothespins or sock puppets. To make an alligator or crocodile clothespin, use a marker to color a clothespin green. Use white paint to draw teeth on the end of the clothespin that opens and closes. Add googly eyes above the teeth. You can also hot-glue a magnet to the back of the clothespin to create a refrigerator magnet. Make an alligator or crocodile sock puppet using a green sock and white craft foam. Cut teeth from the white craft foam to glue on the sock. Children can put their hands inside the sock puppet to make the "mouth" move.

Games

• Fill a clear jar with plastic crocodile and alligator toys. Have the children guess how many are in the jar. The child who guesses closest to the correct answer wins a small prize. Use the small plastic toys to create a hunt. Hide the toys all over the play area and the child who finds the most wins the game. Have a contest to see who can make the best crocodile or alligator using a variety of craft supplies. Some craft supplies include craft pompoms, egg cartons, googly eyes, craft foam, construction paper, glue and chenille stems.
