Avril Lavigne Games for Kids

Avril Lavigne was a popular singer in the early 2000s that many people still know and love. Known for her punk style and independent attitude, Lavigne is a trendsetter and inspiration for many young people. To honor her style, artistic accomplishments and generally upbeat outlook on life, kids can play dressup and imitate Lavigne in various performance games.
  1. Play Dressup

    • Avril Lavigne was noticeable for her style of dress. Unlike many popular female singers of that period, she remained modestly covered, funky and radically independent in her appearance. Purchase cheap clothes from a thrift store or buy inexpensive material to make your own. Dress up each player as Avril Lavigne as she might appear in music videos, at award shows or in magazine spreads. Lavigne was known for her striped armbands, colorful sneakers, long, straight hair and tank tops worn with men's ties. Style the clothes as well as the hair and makeup of each player.

    Lavigne Karaoke

    • Play Avril Lavigne-themed karaoke with each player picking her favorite Lavigne song to perform for the group. Make this an extension of the dressup game to get each performer in the mood. Set up a fake stage and a microphone, play the chosen Lavigne song on a stereo and have each player lip sync or sing along. If you have more players than songs, or some players who don't want to sing, make them the judges. Each singer can perform one or more rounds after which the judges give their critique and an overall score. This game is great for parties and sleepovers.

    Music Video

    • Have the group pick a favorite Avril Lavigne music video and then vote on who gets to be Lavigne. The others can fill in as her band members. Watch the music video from beginning to end a few times, memorizing its components and progression. Pick a place outside and set it up to resemble the performance parts of the music video, using items from around the house. If you have the equipment, assign an adult to tape the video. Play the song as the fake band mates perform the video. For the acting segments of the video, assign a part to each player.

    Future Songwriters

    • Using Lavigne's songs for inspiration, kids can write their own lyrics. They can pick their favorite Lavigne instrumental and write solo or as part of a group. With the instrumental as a guide, help them to write their own words and practise singing them over the music. If there is a guitar player in the bunch, encourage her to learn how to actually play the instrumental. The writer can teach his friends the words he wrote to the song and let them help him to perform it.
