Snowflake Factory
An animated flash game hosted by Rooney Design at DinosaurDesign.com, Snowflake Factory allows children to create and animate a unique snowflake. Each child begins by choosing how many wedges he wants his circle to be folded into, with the default being two. The child then chooses any of several types of hole punches that he can place on the snowflake to create unique designs. Once he is satisfied with his snowflake, he can choose a color for it to be painted and then choose any of several animations.
Snowflake Memory Game
Create cards with a number of snowflakes on each, from one snowflake on one card to at least five snowflakes on one card. If your child can count higher than five, you can make cards with larger numbers of snowflakes. Make two sets of each card. Mix the cards together and lay them face-down on a flat surface in a grid fashion. The child should flip two cards face-up on the surface. If the number of snowflakes on the two cards match, she can pull them out of the grid. If they do not match, she should flip the cards face-down again and try to find another match. The game is over once all the cards are matched.
Construct a Snowflake
Give a group of children a selection of household items and simple craft supplies such as paint, yarn, paper clips and glitter. Challenge each child to build his own snowflake using the most creative materials possible. Give prizes for things such as the best snowflake or the most creative materials used.
Snowball Relay Race
Divide children into two teams. Set up a series of obstacles, such as chairs to go around or ramps to go up, in the game space. Give the first child on each team a Styrofoam ball and a pencil. Each child should push the Styrofoam ball along the floor with the pencil, conquering the obstacles, and wind her way back to the team line. She then should pass the pencil and Styrofoam ball off to the next person in line. The first team to have each player complete the course wins.
