How to Play the Sardine Variation of Hide & Seek

If you are tired of traditional Hide and Seek, try Sardine Hide and Seek. In Sardine Hide and Seek, only one person hides, while the rest of the group splits up and searches for them. Instead of the game ending when the person is found, the searchers hide alongside them. This game is a great variant on a traditional classic that should prove to be great fun for a moderately large group of kids.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a large, safe area with clearly defined boundaries in which to play Sardine Hide and Seek.

    • 2

Select a person to be "It." Instead of counting and searching for the others, the person who is "It" chooses a hiding spot while the rest of the group closes their eyes and counts to 50. Modify the number to which the group counts as needed.

    • 3

Instruct the group of searchers to split up, encouraging them to explore different parts of the play area.

    • 4

Continue searching until you find the hidden person. Now squeeze in next to them, be quiet and don't spoil the surprise.

    • 5

Wait for others to find you and cram in next to you. Eventually, you will start to resemble a can of sardines. Continue hiding until all of the searchers have found the sardines, making the last person who finds the sardines "it" the next round.
