Slumber Parties for Kids

Slumber parties are exciting for kids because they get to have their friends over not just for a few hours, but overnight. Make sure that you plan your child's slumber party so the guests have everything that they need so they can have a good time. Preparing for the slumber party will ensure that it will be a memorable event that the kids will talk about for days.
  1. Invitations

    • Just like when you're inviting kids to a birthday party, you should send out invitations when you're inviting kids to a slumber party. Sit down with your child to decide who will be invited. If it's mostly kids from school but not all your child's classmates, you may want to mail the invitations as to not hurt anyone's feelings. Make sure you send out the invitations at least two weeks in advance to give parents time to plan for that day. The invitations should not only give the place and the time of the slumber party, but it should also include special instructions as to anything the child might need for the night.

    Things to Bring

    • Be sure that you ask the kids to bring all the things that they'll need for the slumber party. Aside from bringing their own sleeping bags, kids might have to bring their own pillows and blankets. Kids will probably need to take a shower so ask them to bring their own towels and a change of clothes. Remind the kids to bring toothbrushes too. Instruct the children to bring anything that they'll need for specific activities they might be doing that day, such as a swimsuit if they'll be going swimming.

    Food and Drinks

    • Don't forget to provide food and drinks for the kids during a sleepover. You might want to serve food during certain times of the day or leave the kids to serve themselves when they get hungry. Aside from water, you might want to serve juice, milk and soda. Some of the food that you can provide for the kids are pizza, chicken or fish fingers, pretzels, chips and vegetables with dip, popcorn, and cheese or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. The next day, kids will be hungry for breakfast, so you might want to serve bagels, pancakes, muffins or cereal.

    Activities

    • Kids will probably find something to do to entertain themselves while they're together, but your child might want something specific planned. Some of the activities that kids can do during a slumber party are pillow fights, a talent show, a karaoke contest, a movie marathon, play dress up, do arts and crafts or play video games. If the party starts early enough in the day, the kids might want to do things outdoors such as go swimming, have a water balloon fight or play with water guns.
