Fun 7th Grade Games

At the seventh-grade level, teachers have to deal with video games, puberty, the first signs of teenage rebellion and the sudden interest in the opposite sex. Keeping kids interested in learning takes creativity. A method that could work for you is introducing interactive games into your lesson plan. You can try to use the games as a way to assign homework instead of the traditional paper assignments. You can also use games as a delivery method for pop quizzes if you have computers in your classroom.
  1. ReadWriteThink

    • Backed by the International Reading Association, (National Council of Teachers of English) NCTE and the Verizon Foundation, ReadWriteThink could be the place to inspire young writers of the future. Through fun games, seventh-graders learn to organize and summarize their thoughts, learn the fundamentals of writing poetry and learn to craft their own original stories. They can also create a digital book and crossword puzzles online. Select the grade level to make sure students aren't playing games above or below their grade level.

    Jefferson Lab

    • The future scientist just may be responsible for helping humans colonize other planets if the resources of Earth are ever depleted. For now, they just need to have fun learning science. Jefferson Lab helps seventh-graders use games to build their science vocabulary, make sense of the periodic table and use flash cards and crossword puzzles to strengthen their understanding of the elements. Jefferson Lab doesn't separate games by grade level, so you'll have to make suggestions for students. Students can search by entering subject keywords for homework helpers such as "atom" or "proton."

    Classzone

    • The next president of the United States may be sitting in your seventh grade class. It all depends on how much she enjoys social studies. You can make it fun by pointing her to McDougal Littell Classzone. McDougal has produced textbooks for K-12 for decades. It has a creative interactive support site for each of its publications. You can search by grade level and even narrow your game search down to the state in which you teach your class. Student enjoy an animated re-telling of history, use interactive mapping tools and can even take practice tests to prepare for your real tests.

    Skillswise

    • Skillwise provides interactive games for the seventh-grade skill level. These skills builders are primarily in language arts and mathematics. The language arts activities cover grammar, reading practice, spelling, reading comprehension and vocabulary building. The math games help students build their skills in fractions, decimals, algebra and geometry. Being that the British school system is a little different from the American school system, select the games ahead of time that you want students to play so you are sure the games are at their comprehension level.
