Little Kids' Games

Little kids get bored easily and need play to expend their energy. Simple games not only encourage play and learning, but help children get to know each other. The outdoor games require plenty of space for your children to move around. The games also require a group of five to ten children.
  1. Tag Games

    • Everyone can play tag.

Many outdoor games can include a game of tag. Tag games involve a child being "it" while he chases other children. While a traditional tag game has the caught person sitting out on the sidelines, you can play a variant of tag that allows all children to participate. Some examples of tag include amoeba tag or tunnel tag. With amoeba tag, two children join hands to catch the other children in order to make one big amoeba. In tunnel tag, a caught person must freeze and can't unfreeze until a child crawls through his legs.

    Team Effort Games

    • Scavenger hunts require teamwork.

Team effort games require children to collaborate with each other to finish a game. Some examples include a scavenger hunt and a relay race. For a scavenger hunt, you can team up kids to look for hidden objects. Scavenger hunts can take place in your yard, at the park or in your home. With a relay race, you can use a few plastic eggs for one child to hold. Other options for a relay race include using balloons or oranges.

    Indoor Games

    • When weather doesn't permit, you can keep children occupied with indoor games. One fun game is called hot lava. You can use pillow cases for stepping stones. You can also make your own version of the Olympic games. Indoor options can include using paper plates for a discus throw, making paper planes and making an obstacle course. The winner of the Olympics gets a medal. Try putting candy inside a jar and having the kids guess the number of candy. Whoever guesses the closest wins the jar.

    Board Games

    • Board games not only get your kids away from the TV, but the games can also teach your kids hand and eye coordination, as well as motor skills. A board game good for preschool and kindergarten level children is Zingo. The game plays like Bingo and requires matching of cards to win. Twister can help little kids learn colors, while getting them moving. Children ages 3 to 6 can play Sequence for Kids. This game is simple to play and helps children learn to put a sequence of animals together to win the game.
