Step-by-Step Magic Tricks for Kids to Do at Home

Magic tricks can be a fun and creative way to spend a rainy day with your child. Magic tricks can also help teach the lesson that not everything is as it appears. When deciding what tricks to do with your child, you should choose some that are not too complicated. You want your child to be successful in it's execution so that it will help them build confidence.

Things You'll Need

  • Rubber band
  • Ring
  • Salt or pepper shaker

Instructions

  1. Make A Ring Climb Up On Its Own

    • 1

Pull a rubber band through a ring.

    • 2

Take one end with one hand and pinch the band in the middle with your pointer and thumb fingers of the other hand. This should hide one end of the rubber band in the palm of your hand.

    • 3

Raise the hand that is holding the end of the band up.

    • 4

Stretch the rubber band to make a ramp that is between 10 and 12 inches long. This ramp will be for the ring to climb. Tell the audience that you are putting all of your energy into moving the ring. Keep the ring on the bottom of your hand while pretending to focus.

    • 5

Relax the grip of your lower hand fingers while feeding the slack band through your fingers. Do this very slowly.

    • 6

Ensure that your hands stay the same space apart so that the rubber band will remain the same length. The ring will float and climb to the higher hand as the slack goes through.

    Make A Salt Shaker Disappear

    • 7

Cover a salt (or pepper) shaker with a napkin.

    • 8

Place your hands over the shaker and napkin.

    • 9

Move the salt shaker (which is still covered by the napkin) on top of a nickel. Say the magic word of your choosing ("abracadabra," for example). Remove the napkin and salt shaker off the table, but leave the nickel on the table. Look at the nickel and pretend you are sad that it is still there.

    • 10

Open your hands and drop the salt shaker in your lap very discreetly. The napkin should still appear as if the salt shaker is in it and then tell your audience that you want to try the trick again.

    • 11

Put your hands over the napkin (which should still look like the salt shaker is under it) and say your magic word again. Flatten the napkin as you push it down. Your audience will be in awe because they will think the salt shaker disappeared.
