Go Fish
Go fish is a simple preschool fishing game. Tie yarn on sticks and then tie medium sized magnets on the end of the piece of yarn. Cut fish shapes out of colorful construction paper and tape these fish on light weight prizes with magnets attached as well. Place the prizes inside a plastic kid sized pool and set up small chairs around the pool. Test to ensure that the magnets can lift the prizes. Teach your preschool children how to go fishing for the prizes. Each kid wins the prizes they catch. You can also only allow one prize per child so that everyone in the class gets a treat.
Guess that Fish
This game is similar to go fish, but it requires just a little more preparation. Make colorful tropical fish and different types of fish out of construction paper. Label each species on the back. You can feature flounder, trout or just about any fish of your choosing. Make poles with magnets just like the go fish game. Tape a magnet on each fish and place the fish inside an empty wading pool. Ask the child to guess the fish as they catch them one by one. Place the fish back in the wading pool if the child doesn't guess the fish correctly. The children are only allowed to keep the fish if they know what type of fish it is. You can also teach a lesson plan about fish the week before the game to improve the odds for the children. Give the kid with the most fish a prize.
Balloon Fish Game
Open the necks of 20 or more balloons and place plastic fish inside the balloons. Fill these balloons with water and place the fish balloons in a small wading pool. Encourage the kids to catch as many balloon fish as they can with fish nets. Allow the kids to keep the fish toys that they catch. This game is excellent set outdoors on a hot day.
Fishing Game with Real Fish
Buy 30 or more fish that like to swim fast and fill up a small wading pool full of these fish. Give each child a net and a bucket full of water. Show the kids how to catch fish with the nets. Set a timer and allow the kids to catch as many fish as possible. The kid with the most fish wins. Sell the fish back to the pet shop or allow kids to take fish home as pets if their parents approve. Some kids may already have an aquarium with other fish at home.
