Disney Educational Games for Kids

Finding educational games for children isn't a hard task these days. Companies like Disney make it a point to release educational material specifically targeted at advancing younger children's learning skills. Many of the best games are for the PC because they incorporate the keyboard and mouse, offering more learning opportunities than traditional gaming consoles.
  1. Disney Phonics Quest

    • Disney Phonics Quest is an educational game designed for children ages 5 to 8. The game takes players through a number of challenges to learn phonics, lead by Mickey Mouse and friends. The game focuses on letter sounds and recognition, vowel sounds, consonant blends, vowel digraphs, syllable recognition, word building, spelling, multiple pronunciations, reading comprehension, rhymes and more, all through simply playing the Disney minigames.

Adventure in Typing with Timon and Pumbaa

    • Disney's Adventure in Typing with Timon and Pumbaa is a game designed to teach touch typing to children, ages 6 and up. The game features classic characters from "The Lion King," all giving lessons on how to properly touch-type. The game concentrates on letter recognition and finger placement, first teaching children home row technique, and later how to type complete words. The game also focuses on accuracy of words and phrases, advancing skills slowly until players have learned all the letters on the keyboard.

    Finding Nemo: Learning with Nemo

    • Finding Nemo: Learning with Nemo is a PC game intended for young children ages 2 to 5. The game follows Nemo at his first day of school, where he must work with Dory to collect objects for a scavenger hunt. The game features a number of minigames children can play throughout that mostly involving pointing and clicking to identify shapes and objects. Young players can also take pictures throughout the game and collect them in a photo album to view and organize. The game can be played three different ways: adventure mode, game mode and "Undersea Sticker Fun." Adventure mode will play through the story scavenger hunt with Dory, while the game mode will take player's directly to the four minigames. Undersea Sticker Fun allows players to view, organize and scroll through their pictures and the collectibles found while playing the game.

Disney Learning Adventure: Search for the Secret Keys

    • Disney Learning Adventure: Search for the Secret Keys is a game intended for very early elementary school children. It can be purchased by itself or found in the Disney Learning 1st and 2nd Grade bundle, which contains two other games as well. In The Search for the Secret Keys, players participate in learning activities with Mickey Mouse and his friends as they enter a haunted house, having to solve puzzles in order to progress through the story. There are six skill-building activities that players advance through by following the verbal instructions given by the animated characters. These characters also help players through tough spots by means of a built-in tutorial, and the game offers a save feature so children can leave the game without losing their progress. The games include activities like organizing alphabetically, completing word puzzles, matching musical notes and sorting visual images.
