Indoor Team-Building Activities for Kids

Building a cooperative group of kids with only a lecture and a few pats on the back doesn&'t always work. To truly inspire cooperation and unity among children, you need to keep them entertained and interested. By having them take part in some indoor team-building activities, you can teach them about the importance of working together while they enjoy themselves.
  1. Stay on the Spot

    • Set up this activity from the Wilderdom website by creating a small circle or square in the room with rope or masking tape. Gather the kids and tell them they have to work together to try and fit everyone inside this space. Add competition to the game by splitting the players up into two teams and creating two boundary areas instead of just one. Anyone who touches the outside of the spaces disqualifies her team from winning. After everyone has successfully made their teams fit inside, make the space smaller. Play until the space becomes impossible to fit everyone inside.

    Tangled

    • Gather everyone in a circle to start this activity from the Learning for Life organization. Instruct the kids to stick out their left arms. Then, tell them to grab any other person&'s left arm, excluding any person standing right next to them. Next, tell the group to put out their right arms and do the same thing with their right arms. The group soon becomes tangled up in a knot of arms. The players need to work together to untangle themselves without letting go of each other&'s arms. Time the group to see how quickly it can perform the task. Try again to see if the children can beat the time they received in the first round.

    Dress-Up Relay

    • Gather clothing the kids can wear over their own clothes. Items like hats, jackets, scarves and so forth work well. Select two of every clothing type. For example, you want two jackets if you choose to use jackets. Divide the kids into two teams and line each team up single file. Place a pile of clothing in front of each group. When you say "Go," the first player in each team has to put on all of the clothing in the team&'s pile. The player then takes off those clothing items and hands them to the next player in line, who performs the same task. Continue this way until one team finishes before the other and wins the game.
