Games for Kids to Make Memory Easier

Memory is a muscle that improves with use. It's normal for kids to have poor memory, especially for things that they aren't interested in remembering. But parents and teachers can help kids improve their memory through games that allow kids to practice memorizing. Games can also teach skills that will help them remember things better.
  1. Concentration

    • The basic card game of Concentration, also known as Memory, can be played in different ways, but the setup is the same. It can use a Concentration card deck or a regular deck of cards. You can use a set of cards of any size, but the cards should be used in pairs so that every card in the set has a matching card. (If you are using a regular deck of cards, then use only two of each number, and try to match the numbers.) The entire set of cards is laid out face down on a table.

During his or her turn, each player turns over two cards so everyone can see what they are. He or she then turns them back face down. The goal is for players to turn over two matching cards. All the players try to remember which cards are located where so that when a card's match is turned over, he can then turn over that card and its match on the next turn. Once a player turns over a matching pair, those two are left face up. Players get a point for every matching pair they turn over, and the player with the most points wins.

    Blind Jigsaw Puzzle

    • Kids who enjoy puzzles can turn any jigsaw puzzle into a memory game. To play blind jigsaw, study the picture on the box first, and then try to put the puzzle together without looking at the picture again. You should use a puzzle that is an easier level than the puzzles the child is usually able to put together, since not being able to look at the box makes the puzzle more difficult.

    Trivia

    • Trivia games are a fun way to improve memory while learning facts about something. Chose a themed trivia game on a topic that the child enjoys. To play trivia games, each player must answer a question about a specific topic or theme. If children want to play the same trivia game over and over, they will learn and remember the answers to questions they've been asked before.

    Story Telling

    • Making up stories is a fun way to remember lists of objects, words or numbers. To play this game, give each player one item from the list that they need to remember. The players then work together to make up a story. The player who starts tells a sentence or two of the story, and he must include his object in the story. The next player continues the story with another sentence or two, and he must also use his object in his section of the story. The finished story will provide a way for everyone in the group to remember the list of objects.
