Mensa Games for Kids

Mensa, an organization whose members all have IQs in the top two percent of the population, recognizes that games are an effective way to educate children as well as engage their sense of play. By creating challenging games for kids and annually awarding other developers who create the smartest and most interesting games, Mensa showcases the games that teach children valuable skills like critical thinking and cooperation in an entertaining and thought-provoking manner.
  1. Wits &Wagers

    • Voted Mind Game of the Year by Mensa Select in 2006, Wits &Wagers poses questions and brain teasers that challenge players without requiring them to be trivia buffs. Players write their best guess to questions like "In what year did Orson Welles' Mercury Theatre stage its groundbreaking production of Julius Caesar?" Once everyone is finished, the guesses are placed face up for all to see. A player can bet on her guess as well as those made by the other players. The award payout (game chips, candy, etc) for correct answer, or the one closest to being correct, is commensurate with the betting odds for that particular question. Wits &Wagers is recommended for children ages 10 and up.

    Dominion

    • In Dominion, a Mensa award-winning strategy card game, each player is a monarch who begins with a small kingdom that must be built up through effective card selection and clever hand plays. Similar to the popular Magic: The Gathering game, the cards in Dominion are used in a variety of ways to build your kingdom (treasury and kingdom cards) and defeat your enemies (attack and react cards). A player's success depends on the cards she draws or buys and how well he plays his hand. Because players begin with a new set of cards each round, each hand requires careful planning because those cards will be gone when the round is up. The game is over when there are no more province cards (the most valuable card) and the winner is determined by point count. Dominion is recommended for children ages 8 and up.

Last Night on Earth: The Zombie Game

    • A strategy board game with a horror movie twist, Last Night on Earth pits a team of human survivors against one player who represents the zombie horde descending upon the town. The object for the survivors is to stay alive and kill zombies. The zombie player replenishes the number of zombies through a series of dice rolls. Game play is kept fresh by having the town layout randomly determined at the start of each new game. Last Night on Earth effectively teaches cooperation and strategic thinking while also providing an entertaining game for kids to enjoy. Recommended for children ages 12 and up.
