Precision Kicking
At a party or just in the park for practice, set up a goal and practice kicking. For precision training, instead of setting up a wide goal area, set up a series of stakes, where each stake is a target. Let the kids divide into teams and take turns attempting to kick a particular stake to score points. Either let the kid call the stake (like calling the pocket in a game of pool) or play where the stakes must be hit in order. In other words, until a player hits the first stake, they cannot progress on to the next stake. The winning team is therefore the first team to hit the last standing stake. With this game, players hone their kicking and aiming skills.
Ball Aloft
Soccer is more than just running and kicking the ball. Great soccer players are able to send the ball aloft and keep it aloft using their heads, feet and knees. Have the kids pair up. Give each pair a soccer ball or let the pairs take turns, in which case, use a stopwatch to time them. Each pair will attempt to keep the ball aloft by passing it between themselves, bouncing the ball off their feet, knees or head. The pair able to do so the longest, or have the most volleys, wins. Each player can only handle the ball up to three times before he must pass it to his partner. So one player might do two knee volleys then bop it over with his foot.
