Elementary Kids Games

Elementary school kids usually like the fun and entertainment that come with playing games. Games help students at this age build social skills, along with emphasizing teamwork and the importance of following directions. Keep the child's age group, skill level and attention span in mind when deciding on the best games to play.
  1. Bottle Bowling

    • Plastic bottles make suitable bowling pins.

Bottle bowling is a fun game for a small group of elementary-age kids. Collect several plastic 2-liter bottles and divide them evenly among two groups of students. Set them up in a row or bowling formation. Draw a line a few feet away from the bottles for each team. Line children up behind the line to take turns throwing a rubber ball at the bottles and trying to knock them down. The first team to successfully knock down all the bottles is the winner.

    Blob Tag

    • Kids use teamwork in blob tag.

Tag is fun and full of exercise for kids. Teach them to play blob tag, which adds teamwork, for a fun twist on a classic game. Start out with one child being "it." That student must chase and tag another participant. The second child tagged must pair up with the original "it" by holding hands and forming a team that will then have to work together to tag other children. The "it" blob keeps getting bigger as more children are tagged and have to join hands and work together with the team. This is an easy game for kids to master and can be a much more fun version of the traditional game of tag.

    Egg Relay Race

    • Egg relay races require patience and a steady hand.

Egg relay races require a steady hand, patience and teamwork. This can add up to a challenge for elementary school children. You'll need hardboiled eggs and spoons for each participant. Split students into teams of two. Give one person on the team an egg and spoon. The kids must carefully balance the egg on the spoon and walk it as fast as they can to a predesignated second line. If the egg drops, they must return to the starting point and begin again. Make this even more challenging by having the children hold the end of the spoon in their mouths instead of their hands. Once the first child has successfully made it to the second line and back, she must tag her partner, transfer the egg and he will have to make it to the second line and back to finish the race. The fastest team wins.
