List of Birthday Games

Adding party games to any birthday can spice up the fun and excitement. Whether you are planning a party for children or adults, the games can be modified for all ages. With inexpensive supplies, some creativity and a few ideas, you can create games that are sure to be an instant hit at the party. Awarding prizes to game winners will encourage everyone to play along.
  1. Penny Drop

    • Divide the players into two teams. Place two plastic cups on the ground 10 feet from each team (one cup per team). Give each player a penny. When you say, "Drop that penny," the first player in each team line must place the penny between his knees and race to his team cup. He must try to drop the penny in the plastic cup from his knees. If he makes it, that team earns a point. If he misses, he must run to tag the next player in line who must do the same thing. The first team to score six pennies in their cup win the game.

    Scavenger Hunt

    • Create a scavenger hunt that fits the birthday party theme. For example, for a child's theme party, you can hide birthday-themed party favors around the party area for the children to find. The children can keep all the party favors to take home as a memento of the party, and the child who finds the most items wins an additional prize. For older children, create an outdoor scavenger hunt. Have the party guests find items like a brown rock, a yellow leaf, a blade of grass, a small twig and a piece of trash. Make lists of 20 items, and the team who find 15 of the 20 items first win the game.

    Sock Relay

    • Have the players divide into even teams and give each team 10 pair of socks. Mark a starting line and place a cone 20 feet from the starting line. Have the teams line up at the starting line. When you say "Race," the first player in each line must put on all 10 pairs of socks. He must run around the cone and back to his team line. He has to take off all the socks and hand them to the next player in line, who must do the same thing. The first team to finish the relay race win the game.

    Water Balloon Pass

    • Inflate several water balloons before the party and place them in a bucket. Divide the players into even teams and have them stand in single-file lines. Hand the first player in each line a small water balloon. The teams must race to pass the balloon down their team line; however, they can only use their neck and chin to do this. If a balloon falls or breaks, the team must start a new balloon at the beginning of the line. The first team to get the water balloon all the way down their team line wins the game.
