Endangered Animal Hunt
Many animals that zoos have are endangered due to loss of habitat or hunting. Give the kids a list of the endangered animals that the zoo you are visiting has and see if who can find them all. Many zoos have special signs posted for endangered animals, making this a simple idea for younger children.
Animal Adaptation Hunt
A great educational scavenger hunt is to search for animals based on their adaptations. Some animals have camouflage colors to blend in, others have long necks to reach leaves, and others store water to survive in dry climates. Give each child a list of adaptations to look for at the zoo. Adults can share why each adaptation exists.
Zoo Worker Scavenger Hunt
The animals are not the only interesting things to see at the zoo. Kids can search for zoo workers performing tasks to see what all needs to be done. Look for zoo workers feeding animals, cleaning habitats, and providing medical care. In larger zoos there may even be workers who train animals to perform. Children who are interested in working with animals may find this an exciting hunt.
