Paranormal Games to Play With Friends

There are plenty of party games you can play with your friends. These can range from video games, card games, and even board games. One type of popular game that can be played amongst friends are paranormal ones. These are ones that involve a supernatural factor or presence during the game play experience that may feel scary or awkward, but are generally all in good fun.
  1. Spoon Bending

    • The origins of the "Spoon Bending" originates from Uri Geller, a claimed psychic known to bend spoons with his mind. Whether true or just a slight of hand magician's trick, since his time, spoon bending has evolved into a party game that involves any type of utensils. The game starts with each person hold a utensil at hand, then asking it to bend, either politely or as shouted commands. Then the person must gently rub the utensil with his or her fingers. Eventually, everyone participating in the game will have their attention averted elsewhere. It is at this time, due to constant rubbing, that the utensil becomes malleable and can be bent while people are not looking. This produces the illusion of a "supernatural" event.

Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board

    • The object of "Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board" is to levitate someone. This game involves at least five people with one person as the subject being levitated. The subject must lay supine on the floor, completely relaxed and eyes closed. Then the four participants surround the subject: one at the feet, one on each side, then one at the head. Then the participants place two fingers from each hand from beneath the subject. Afterwards, the participants also close their eyes and chant continually, "Light as a feather, stiff as a board..." Eventually the participants are able to raise the subject from the floor, thus creating a levitation event.

    Bloody Mary

    • The game "Bloody Mary" is based off an old urban legend. This can be performed by any number of friends because of the game's setup. First the people begin a "ritual" by standing in a darkened or dimly lit room with a mirror in it. Then, while in the dark, one person stares toward the mirror and chants "Bloody Mary" exactly 13 times. What should happen is that the visage or spirit of Bloody Mary will appear behind everybody. This game is a great way for a cheap scare, a dare, or a good experiment on collective hysteria.

    Ouija Board

    • The Ouija Board is probably one of the most well-known paranormal games due to its accessibility at many mainstream toy stores. In addition, plenty of horror movies have employed the Ouija Board as part of the story's plot, further capitalizing on its popularity. This board has the alphabet written on it, accompanied with the words "yes," "no," and "goodbye." At least two players put their fingers on the pointer, then ask it any number of questions. Eventually, the pointer will "move" on its own and spell out the appropriate answers. Whether the Ouija Board answers from the beyond or not is uncertain, but it does show how the "idemotor effect" or psychological suggestion can work on individuals during this game.
