Games to Play at Drop in Baby Showers

A drop-in or open-house baby shower accommodates busy schedules by allowing guests to come and go within a designated time period. Drop-in showers tend to be informal and casual without a rigid structure or timetable. Food should be served buffet style--avoid items that must stay hot or cold since you will need to offer the food throughout a two-to-three-hour time span. Baby shower games that guests can play individually add a traditional touch to the festivities and serve as an icebreaker activity for guests who do not know each other well.
  1. How Big Is the Mother̵7;s Belly?

    • When guests arrive, give them each a roll of string or yarn and scissors. Instruct guests to cut the amount of string they think will fit around the mother-to-be̵7;s belly. Once they make their guess, let them test their theory by wrapping the string around her belly. Pass out small prizes to guests with accurate guesses.

    Determine the Due Date

    • Hand out sheets to guests with places to guess the baby̵7;s gender (if unknown), weight, date and time of birth. Collect the sheets and save them until the baby̵7;s birth. Check to see who came closest to the real details and mail out prizes to the winners.

    Baby Food Fun

    • Remove labels from a variety of different baby food jars. Make sure you choose at least two or three ̶0;tricky̶1; same-colored foods, such as sweet potatoes, carrots and apricots. Label each jar with a number and arrange them on a table. Give guests a sheet of paper. Let them go to the table and attempt to identify the flavor of each numbered food based on the color and odor. Alternately, give guests small spoons and a paper plate so that they can open the jars and taste the different foods prior to guessing.

    What's in the Bag?

    • Fill a diaper bag with a variety of baby essentials, such as diapers, a bottle, wipes and a pacifier. You can even be slightly tricky and include items such as a disposable camera (to capture priceless moments) and board books or toys to occupy the baby. Let guests take turns touching the bag to try to determine its contents. Ask them to write their guesses down so you can check to see whether they guessed correctly. At the end of the party, the mom-to-be gets to keep the fully stocked diaper bag.

    Guess the Celebrity Baby

    • Cut out 15 different pictures of babies from magazines or catalogs. Go through magazines or websites and cut/print out different full-body images of celebrities. Try to find celebrities from different time periods so that all party guests can find somebody they recognize. Glue the celebrity bodies on a large piece of poster board. Cut out and paste baby heads onto the celebrity bodies. Number the pictures and let guests try to guess the identity of each celebrity.
