Sleepover Games & Ideas

When hosting a sleepover for school-age children (elementary and middle school) the key is to keep them busy, well-fed and happy. Occupied guests will have less time to be homesick. Plan to have several activities lined up for the overnight event.
  1. Who Am I?

    • This game is simple to set up, easy to explain and is mess-free. It's best for children in middle school or older. Get a stack of index cards and write down names of famous people. Without looking at the name on the card, each guest will pick one and tape it to their backs, name facing outward. Guests will walk around and others must treat them as if they were the person on the card. Each guest must figure out who they are.

    Truth or Dare

    • A sleepover classic for preteens and teens and an instant hit, truth or dare is easy to play and can last for hours. All the guests should sit in a circle. Pick one person to start the game off by asking someone, "truth or dare." That person must either choose "truth" and answer a question or "dare" and perform a task. Once that turn is over, that person will ask someone else "truth or dare."

    Twister

    • Twister is a popular sleepover game. It can be found in any toy store or department stores such as Walmart or Target. Guests will lay the Twister mat on the floor and one person will spin to start the game. You must follow the instructions on the spinner and before you know it, the guests will be a tangled mess on the Twister board. You are "out" when you fall. The last standing person wins.

    Make Your Own Sundaes

    • What's a slumber party without a midnight snack? Serve your guests ice cream and let them decorate it with their favorite toppings. You will need ice cream and toppings such as whipped cream, hot fudge, chocolate candies, marshmallows, and cherries. Great for all ages!

    Ghost Stories

    • If your group of guests enjoys being scared, share ghost stories. Gather in a circle, turn off the lights and the person telling the scary story should hold a flashlight under his chin to illuminate his face in an eerie light. The goal is to get your other guests to scream.
