How to Play Paranoia XP

Paranoia XP is a role playing game set in a future that is very similar to the future presented in such books as "1984" and "Brave New World." The game has a lot of dark comedy that isn't found in other role playing games. Often each character has a secret, hidden agenda that often involves taking advantage of other players--which is why the game is called Paranoia.

Instructions

  Find some friends who would like to play Paranoia XP with you. Ideally you should have 3 or more players, but you can play with just 2.

  Figure out who will be the Game Master. This person will be in charge of the game and will make rule modifications and determinations throughout the game. He/she will also play all of the characters in the game that aren't controlled by the other players.

  Find the character sheet that comes with the game. There is also one that can be downloaded for free from the Mongoose Publishing website (see Resources below).

  Decide how you want to determine your character's skill set. You can roll dice to randomly determine your character's skills, or you can allocate the available points into each skill to craft the kind of character you want. Finally, you can also choose to have a flat score of 7 for each skill.

  Distribute the character skill points into each of the available skill areas. You have 3 action skills, subdivided into the categories: Management, Stealth and Violence. There are also 3 knowledge skills in the following categories: Hardware, Software and Wetware.
