Ability Guide for Monsters: Joker

"Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker" for the Nintendo DS is a role-playing game centered around Joker, a young boy who wants to be a monster trainer. You must collect, train and breed as many monsters as possible, using them to do battle and to compete in tournaments. Each monster comes with its own natural skill set, but you can also assign skill points to teach the monster new abilities. Knowing a few of the game's 192 total skill sets can help make wise decisions when upgrading your monsters.
  1. Fizz & Bang

    • The Frizz & Bang skill set has three levels of expertise, with Frizz & Bang III providing expert magic spells. The skill set's offensive spells include Kafrizz and Kafrizzle, which incinerate enemies with fireballs, and Kaboom and Kaboomle, which blast enemies with violent explosions. The set's premier skill, Bang Guard, costs 100 skill points and protects against all bang attacks.

    Whoosh and Crack

    • Another magic skill set, Woosh and Crack also features three levels of expertise, with its eight skills requiring between seven and 100 skill points each. The set's attacking spells are Gale Slash, which cuts enemies with howling wind, and Blizzard Slash, which slices enemies with a freezing slash, while the offensive spells include Kaswooh, Kacrack, Kaswooshle and Kacrackle.

    Ice

    • You can upgrade your monsters to be experts in Ice Magic, with 100 skill points required to learn the top skill of Ice Breath Guard. The third level of Ice Magic includes seven other spells, including Cold Blizzard, Blizzard Slash, Kacrack and Kacrackle, the latter two spells ravaging enemies with a barrage of razor-sharp icicles.

    Thunderwind Slashes

    • A skill set of wind and lightning attacks, Thunderwind Slashes includes seven distinct attacking spells. Learning the Gust Slash costs a mere eight skill points, while the set's top spell, Thunderbolt Slash, costs 100 skill points. The Shade Slash, the Lightning Slash, the Mercurial Thrust and the Shadow Slash round out the set's spells.

    Boom Boxer

    • The Boom Boxer skill set turns your monster into an explosive warrior, with seven of the eight spells dedicated to offensive attacks. The Helm Splitter, worth 13 skill points, lowers an enemy's defenses with a skull-splitting smash. Other attacks include the Flame Slash and the Body Slam, which inflicts heavy damage to the target but also injures the user.

    Mime

    • The Mime skill set includes eight spells that grant the user the ability to mimic enemies and prevent them from executing certain attacks. The Sultry Dance spell entices a single enemy to start dancing, stopping him from attacking. The Gobstopper spell prohibits an enemy from using breath attacks, and the Tongue Lashing reduces a single enemy's defenses.
