How to Build a Three-Type Pokemon Deck

A strategic choice of cards creates an effective "Pokemon" deck with three elements. Using Colorless Pokemon such as Zigzagoon and Linoone allow players to combine two other elements from the Grass, Fire, Water, Metal, Darkness, Fighting, Lightning and Psychic groups. This method is used to combine your two favorite elements with the Colorless element for a versatile total of three elements in your "Pokemon" deck. A deck based upon three elemental types will handle all sorts of challenges that a single elemental styled deck couldn't.

Instructions

    • 1

Balance your Energy Cards evenly between two elements. For example, if you plan on using Grass, Fighting and Colorless Pokemon, stock your deck with an even number of Grass and Fighting Energy Cards, since Colorless Pokemon use any elemental energy type.

    • 2

Build evolutionary pyramids to make powerful "Pokemon" evolutions happen more quickly. For Pokemon that evolve, have four copies of its Basic form in the deck -- at least two cards of its first evolution and one or more of its final form.

    • 3

Use Pokemon from all three types in your deck to efficiently use the energy cards. For a Grass, Fighting and Colorless deck, you could use several Grimer and Muk to use the Grass Energy; Hitmonchan, Phanpy and Donphan for the Fighting Energy cards and an assortment of Zangoose, Tauros and Castform Pokemon to use the provided elemental cards.

    • 4

Insert Trainer cards that will help to boost your deck's strengths and to cover its weaknesses. Cards that are used to manipulate elemental energy such as Energy Search and Energy Switch make multielement "Pokemon" decks work.
