Memory Activities
Print several pictures of hockey-related items, such as hockey player, puck, hockey stick, a referee and a player, a goalie in the net and a goalie with a hockey stick. Print two of each picture and laminate each one for durability. Place the cards face down on a table and have the preschoolers play a game of memory. The child who finds the most pairs wins the game and a small prize. For a variation, place the pictures on a tray and show it to the children. Take the tray out of the room and see who can remember the most items from the tray.
Paper Activities
Give the preschool children hockey-themed coloring books to color using markers, crayons and paint. The children can also use the pictures to make their own hockey craft. For example, give each child construction paper or craft foam to use to construct a hockey stick or puck. Other hockey-themed paper games include dot-to-dots and color-by-numbers. Another idea is to make bingo cards with hockey-related items in each square. The preschoolers can play a game of hockey bingo and the first player to get a bingo wins a small prize.
Outdoor Activities
Take the preschool children outdoors for some hockey fun. If you have a hockey stick, the children can use it for the activities. If not, simply use a broom in place of a hockey stick. Mark a line and tell each child to hit a small foam ball as far as he can with a hockey stick or broom from the line. The child who hits the ball the farthest distance wins the activity. Place a soccer goal up for the children to use to do activities like the best shot from the farthest distance, best goalie and best blindfolded shot.
Hockey Game
Set up a hockey game for your preschoolers using two large cardboard boxes. Place the boxes 30 feet from one another on their sides so the children can hit a ball into the boxes. Give each preschooler an empty wrapping paper roll to use as a hockey stick. Divide the players into two teams. The children must use the empty wrapping paper tubes to hit the ball into their team's goal. The first team to score five goals wins the game. Alternatively, play a game of one-on-one. The first player to make the ball into the goal wins a prize.
