Barbecue Cooking Games for Girls

Girls with an interest in cooking barbecue live in a very accommodating era. Given the popularity of televised cooking shows, it is easy to pique their interest and challenge their creativity with home cooking challenges indoors and outside. You can also find a large number of free online computer games to encourage their hobby, and the flood of games to portable and home consoles provides many choices to entertain, educate and generate enthusiasm about cooking barbecue.
  1. Home Cooking Games

    • With television personalities like Rachael Ray and Iron Chef Morimoto becoming household names, it is easy to find a number of aspiring masters of cuisine in many homes. For girls interested in gastronomic games, barbecue is an accommodating subject. Create an Iron Chef style challenge where girls use a specific ingredient to create glazes which adults use to top their meat or veggie choice. Give them some unconventional ingredients such as peanut butter or soft drinks and challenge the girls as a group to make the ingredients into a tasty barbecue sauce.

    Flash Computer Games

    • For those who want to explore their creativity without having to deal with the muss and fuss of a kitchen, flash computer games are a great way to encourage girls to develop their interest in cooking barbecue. Girls Game Club's "Barbecue Game" and 1001 Online Games' "Granny's BBQ" both stress understanding the needs of a customer in a business management game, while Lipton's "Better Barbecue Challenge" stresses the importance of paying attention to ingredients as they cook on the grill. There are many more games like these available at no charge on flash games sites specifically tailored to girls.

    Console Games

    • While you can find cooking games for consoles as old as the Atari 2600, you will invariably find the most on the Nintendo Wii platform. The Wii's remote controller allows the capture of motions that emulate chopping, slicing, peeling and stirring without relying on button presses. Several game producers have made cooking games with barbecue cooking that are well-suited for girls. Majesco's "Cooking Mama: Cook Off" and "Cooking Mama: World Kitchen" recreate realistic cooking with barbecue-themed elements. While Wii games exist from Cooking Network and the Iron Chef franchise, neither is as targeted towards a girl audience nor as well-reviewed as Zoo Digital Publishing's "Order Up!"

    Portable Games

    • While the PlayStation Portable gaming console offers a few cooking games, such as "Yummy Yummy Cooking Jam," the real contender in the portable cooking game arena is the Nintendo DS. Its touch screen controls allow emulation of many cooking moves, and its microphone allows the capture of blowing on the broth to cool it down. These features are used to great effect in Majesco's "Cooking Mama" series to create a game play experience most girls will enjoy. The Iron Chef game for the DS is poorly reviewed and contains no barbecue recipes and should be avoided. However, Imagine's "World Chef" and "Happy Cooking" games both contain a broad assortment of recipes (including barbecued elements) and an aesthetic clearly designed for girls.
